Influence of stress states on cleavage fracture in X70 pipeline steels

چکیده
Stress state is a primary factor controlling the ductile fracture behavior of steels, which typically represented as combination stress triaxiality and Lode angle parameter. The cleavage properties pipeline steels at low temperatures are usually assessed under plane strain conditions, such using mechanics experiments. In this study, X70 steel liquid nitrogen temperature (?196 °C) characterized over broad range states. A comprehensive experimental program carried out by performing tensile tests various flat specimens different geometries immersed in nitrogen, including shear, central hole, notched dog bone, side grooved strain. Pronounced plasticity occurs prior to final within tested states very temperature. Anisotropy effects considered conducting along rolling, diagonal transverse directions. Finite element simulations corresponding experiments performed an evolving quadratic model extract local variables establish criteria, formulated based on critical values plastic maximum principal stress. investigated material affected triaxiality, parameter loading direction.

Industrial application of Instrumented DWTT in evaluating material resistance to ductile fracture for modern pipeline steels
CTOAC of typical X70, X80 and X90 pipeline steels plates were evaluated by using energy based regression method upon their single specimen. Clear difference in the material resistance to ductile cracking could be distinguished by the values of CTOAC and their characteristic fracture surface. The region of stable cracking on the fracture surface could be identified from the dynamic crack extensi...
متن کاملan observation on metallurgical factors affecting hydrogen and sulfide induced stress cracking of pipeline steels
the effect of metallurgical parameters influencing the susceptibility of the steel grades, used for gas and oil pipe, to hydrogen induced cracking and sulfide stress corrosion cracking has been studied. the study of the recent investigations suggests that the shape and the nature of inclusions, microstructures, sulfur content and desulfurization as well as the nature of alloying elements in ste...
متن کاملInvestigation of Ductile Fracture Arrest of High Strength Steels for Gas Pipeline Application
The ductile fracture arrest may present supplementary requirement for selection of base material for most demanding steel welded structures. The most representative one with such requirement are gas pipelines. Therefore to ensure that the pipeline materials has adequate toughness to arrest a ductile fracture, the pipe material must be designed and tested in accordance with the specific procedur...
متن کاملMicrostructure and cleavage in lath martensitic steels
In this paper we discuss the microstructure of lath martensitic steels and the mechanisms by which it controls cleavage fracture. The specific experimental example is a 9Ni (9 wt% Ni) steel annealed to have a large prior austenite grain size, then examined and tested in the as-quenched condition to produce a relatively coarse lath martensite. The microstructure is shown to approximate the recen...
متن کاملcritical period effects in foreign language learning:the influence of maturational state on the acquisition of reading, writing, and grammar in english as a foreign language
since the 1960s the age effects on learning both first and second language have been explored by many linguists and applied linguists (e.g lennerberg, 1967; schachter, 1996; long, 1990) and the existence of critical period for language acquisition was found to be a common ground of all these studies. in spite of some common findings, some issues about the impacts of age on acquiring a second or...
